Hashing is a Saturday activity in Grenada, where a hundred or two of your friends get together and hike up and down and up and down the countryside! The views are amazing but it is definitely a workout.
Each week by Wednesday or Thursday the Hash Master or Mistress
posts where the hash will be for the following Saturday. No car, no problem. People will pick you up at the assigned round about. Hashes are $2.00 per person and there is always food and drink available afterwards.
These hikes are about 1 hour in length. It is hot, hot, hot. You should be hiking with a litre of water per person. You also need to be wearing runners or shoes with really good gripping soles. I see people with flip flops, stacked sandals, or fancy sandals and can't understand what goes through their heads. I am unsure where they think they are walking but there will be roots, thorns, rocks, steep inclines and declines where you need your shoes to keep you from falling. The people who come back bloodied from falling are almost always wearing stupid footwear.
The hashes are hard work, I would not want to do one the second day I was here, you need to adjust to the heat before you put your body through that kind of stress. Having said that I wouldn't want to miss doing one either.
Here are some shots from the various hashes we have done:

You may encounter sections where you need ropes to get up or down! |
